Seminar: LGBTI+ Activism in the Eurasia Region in times of war and oppression

The panel will be dedicated to the work of LGBTQ activists in the Eurasia region. We will discuss the challenges and obstacles created by the legislation adopted in different countries in the region.

Particular attention will be given to the impact of the recent “foreign agent” laws and anti-LGBTQ laws in Russia and Georgia. These laws have severely restricted the activities of civil society organisations and LGBTQ activists, labelling them as foreign agents and imposing stringent regulations that hinder their work.

Place: Pride House, Clarion Hotel Sign, Östra Järnvägsgatan 35, B2 (Level1).

Screening of the short film “Amwaj za2ifa” (“False waves”) from Morocco and discussion with producers

“Amwaj za2ifa” (“False Waves”), a 10-minute short film directed by Najlae Ait Oubna and co-written by Inès and Najlae Ait Oubna.

The short film deals with the love, repression, fear and resistance of a queer person caught between two lives, a forgotten life and an illusory life. Amwaj za2ifa reflects the world of “H”, a young poet-photographer who works in a photography laboratory. After meeting an old acquaintance, her life takes a direction of doubt and upheaval, a questioning of her own desires, thoughts, fears and choices adapted to social codes. H is a heaviness experienced by a body and a mind in search of correct and just looks, where the sincerity of the soul is looking for a place to settle and rest, to finally be itself. After the 10-minute film, a 30-minute discussion with Ines Bouallou, the co-wirter and main character/actor will be held. The discussion will be moderated by Goran Miletic, Director for Europe and MENA, Civil Rights Defenders
