Macedonian Team Winner in This Year’s Moot Court Competition

Team Prima Iustiniana from the law faculty at the University of Skopje in Macedonia was the winning team of this year’s moot court competition. Team Radomir Lukic from Novi Sad in Serbia was ranked second in the competition.

On April 23-25 Civil Rights Defenders and Young Lawyers of Serbia arranged a regional moot court competition in the Western Balkans. The aim of the competition is to educate law students in bringing cases before the European Court of Human Rights. Ten teams from Macedonia, Bosnia, Montenegro, Serbia and Croatia participated in the competition that was held in Rijeka, Croatia.

“The final of this year’s competition was really exciting because team Iustiniana Prima won the first round and team Radomir Lukic won the second round with the same number of points. If two teams have the same score the rules say that the judges will vote for the best team. After the vote team Iustiniana Prima from Skopje stood as winner”, Goran Miletic, Human Rights Lawyer at Civil Rights Defenders, reports from Rijeka.

Percy Bratt, Lawyer and Chair of Civil Rights Defenders, would have participated in the competition as an advisor together with two colleagues but due to the flight cancellations related to the volcanic ash they couldn’t travel to Croatia.

Civil Rights Defenders organised the first regional moot court competition in the Western Balkans in April 2007. Since then, four competitions have been held and about 280 students trained in human rights.
