Seminar: Voices Under Threat

The panel discussion will spotlight the urgent human rights challenges that LGBTI+ individuals face across the Eastern Europe region. As democratic backsliding intensifies, activists confront a rising tide of repression, from discriminatory laws and hate speech to violence and state-sponsored harassment.

Our discussion will focus on the shrinking space and repression that deepen the vulnerability of marginalised communities and further isolate their voices. LGBTI+ human rights defenders will share first-hand accounts, shed light on regional realities, and explore paths forward for resilience and resistance.

Afterwards, you are warmly encouraged to engage directly with the speakers during a Q&A session.

Date: 31 July 2025
Time: 14.00-14.45
Place: Pride House, Clarion Hotel Sign, Östra Järnvägsgatan 35, B2 (Level 1)
Language: English
Entrance: Free!

Screening: “We Will Walk” documentary about the banned EuroPride 2022 in Belgrade

The documentary “We Will Walk”, produced by Panorama Films for Civil Rights Defenders, tells the story of how LGBTI+ activists defied a government ban and marched through Belgrade during EuroPride 2022 — despite Serbia’s president attempting to shut it down.

Across Europe, LGBTI+ human rights defenders are increasingly targeted, particularly when organising Pride events. In several countries, authorities have imposed bans, restrictions, and last-minute cancellations, under the pretext of public security or morality.

This not only violates people’s rights to assembly and expression, but also leads to fear, repression, scapegoating, and harassment of the LGBTI+ community.

The documentary captures activists’ determination in the face of state-led intimidation. After the screening, we will open the floor to discuss the crackdown against Pride across Europe.

Participants will get to hear first-hand perspectives from human rights defenders operating in hostile political contexts.
