Attacks Against LGBT Organisation ‘Maximum’ Must be Fully Investigated

On 13 April, 2015 three unidentified men sprayed asphyxiating gas into the office of our partner Maximum an LGBT organisation based in Murmansk, Russia injuring two individuals.

There has been a history of threats against Maximum and the LGBT community in the region who are regularly exposed to harassment and hate crimes.

In an open letter to Mr. Igor Batalov, Head of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation in Murmansk Region, Civil Rights Defenders call upon the Ministry to honour national and international obligations especially when it comes to investigating hate crimes and acts of violence against LGBT organisations and the LGBT community.
