Civil Society Groups Call on the Tanzanian Government to Address Rapidly Deteriorating Human Rights Situation
The state of human rights in Tanzania is deteriorating and the political space for dissents narrowing down rapidly. The fine levied on five television stations for airing a press statement made by the Legal Human Rights Centre (LHRC) in January 2018 epitomises the trend. LHRC’s statement was a report on the detentions, intimidations and physical abuses committed during the November 2017 election.
Civil Rights Defenders and 64 civil society groups call on the government of Tanzania to stop the increasing attack on human rights defenders, journalists, civil society organisations and members of the opposition. Follow the link to read the full letter.
