Strengthening Freedom of Expression with Kosovo Press Council
By supporting the Press Council we contribute to ensuring the quality of media and to strengthening freedom of expression in Kosovo. Furthermore, our focus is to make the Kosovo public better aware of the Press Council’s existence and role, and to ensure the future sustainability of the Press Council.
Kosovo Press Council functions as a self-regulatory body for the print media in Kosovo and as a complaints board to which residents may bring complaints of breaches of the Press Code of Conduct. The Press Council serves as a safeguard for the press freedom since it leaves the industry to regulate itself, and thereby to some extent protects media from political influence.
The Press Council was established in 2005 following the expiring mandate of the Temporary Media Commissioner. Its legal basis is the Press Code of Conduct.
