Civil Rights Defenders Reports Sweden to UN Committee
On June 5, Civil Rights Defenders filed a complaint against Sweden to the UN’s Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities regarding a case where a young man was denied asylum. The young man, who has been diagnosed with complex post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), has gone through an asylum process with major flaws.
Civil Rights Defenders claims that Sweden has violated several articles of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and reports Sweden to the UN’s Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
“We want the committee to direct criticism towards Sweden’s handling of our client’s asylum case and call on the government to acknowledge his need for protection” said Tilda Pontén, Legal Adviser at Civil Rights Defenders.
