First Step Towards a Coalition Against Hate Crimes

28-30 November, Civil Rights Defenders is organising a workshop on hate crimes and hate speech. The workshop includes training in monitoring, advocacy and litigation strategies.

The film shows Sasa Gavric, Executive Director of Sarajevo Open Centre, interviewing Dr. Paul Byerley, representative of the lgbt organisation MANEO at Civil Rights Defender’s workshop on hate speech and hate crimes in Sarajevo, November 2012. The training is held in cooperation with the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The aim of the training is to build the capacities of local human rights organisations to deal with hate crimes in a more consistent and comprehensive way. Another goal is to build a coalition of local human rights organisations that will monitor and report on hate speech and hate crimes, and bring strategic cases to court.
