Civil Rights Defenders Criticises Decision on Medical Age Assessments
In May 2019, Civil Rights Defenders and the Swedish Refugee Law Center reported the Swedish state to the Chancellor of Justice. The case concerns an underaged man who went through a flawed medical age assessment and whose human rights were violated during an asylum process. On Wednesday, the Chancellor of Justice presented its decision – to deny the request of compensation and not direct any criticism towards the Swedish state.
“The Chancellor of Justice’s decision shows how difficult it is to obtain redress for inaccurate asylum decisions, especially those following an arbitrary uncertain medical age assessment” said Tilda Pontén, Legal Adviser at Civil Rights Defenders.
Civil Rights Defenders and the Swedish Refugee Law Center will review how the case and the issue can be further pursued, in order to highlight the situation for our client and other asylum seekers affected.
