Civil Rights Defenders is an international human rights organisation based in Sweden that defends civil and political rights together with local human rights defenders to increase their security, capacity, and access to justice. We annually award one human rights defender with the Civil Rights Defender of the Year Award. The recipient is a person who, despite the risk to their safety, continues their fight for the respect and protection of civil and political rights. Read more here.
Tasks and Opportunities
Together with our team, you will be a part of organising the Civil Rights Defender of the Year Award ceremony, event planning, communication and associated activities. You will, among other things, plan events and advocacy activities, contribute to the production of digital and print material, and provide general support for the communications and fundraising departments. You will gain firsthand insight into the communications and fundraising work of an international NGO.
During the internship, Civil Rights Defenders will offer opportunities to take part in external events, seminars and meetings and will also arrange internal workshops on relevant topics within our field of work.
We are looking for an intern with some or all these characteristics:
- Excellent communication skills, including writing skills, and the ability to work independently and responsibly.
- Strong knowledge of international affairs and human rights issues.
- Some experience with event planning and public affairs.
- Interest in marketing and fundraising.
- Knowledge in photography, video, graphic design, presentations or WordPress is considered a merit.
- Active in civil society organisations – local, national or international.
- Excellent written and spoken proficiency in both Swedish and English is required.
Civil Rights Defenders only accepts interns who have internship as part of their formal education, if the internship is during studies or follows in direct conjunction with finalised studies or, if it is part of a programme related to a public employment service. The internship is unpaid, however local transport costs during the internship period are covered (SL card purchase).
The internship, which is located at our head office in Stockholm, will take place between February 2020 and June 2020. The internship has to take place during the ceremony, 26 May.
